I meal plan, it’s rough, based on what is in my house or arriving in my weekly vegetable bin, or as I refer to it green bin (and not the nasty one with all the scraps on their way to compost).
Since it is old school (pen and paper), here’s a photo. On the Menu this week….
Meal Planning isn’t hard, and it doesn’t take much time. I sit down, usually on Sundays, and take inventory of what we have in the house, and make a list of what I would like to make, what I think the kids will eat and voila, the first part can take 5min, but the second part coming up with what to make can take much longer, I spend way too much time looking up recipes. Not everyone is up to that, I am a recipe geek, so you can make things au natural, no recipe, or a have staple list of recipes that you use on rotation. Also, despite putting a meal down under a day of the week, if all the ingredients are in the house and fresh, feel free to move meals around based on how much time you have to prepare, what you are in the mood for etc. Once you have a plan, you spend much less time thinking of what to make, and in the end you waste less food, and reduce meal time stress! Honestly a few minutes at the beginning of the week, saves so much time opening the fridge door and staring at the contents in a panic at 5pm when everyone is hungry!
